We had done a small vanity fix for Janelle a few years back in a rental apartment in the city. She liked our work, liked the communication and punctuality.
Janelle called me about this space in her beautiful period home in Stanley Point with super high pressed ceilings, gorgeous floors, typical tall skirtings and lovely painted moulded door frames etc, etc. She had too many books, heaps of space for them in a room that wasn’t particularly functional, so we came up with a design to maximize the length of the wall, while using the height of the ceilings to make the cabinets 2,9 meters high.
We didn’t want to remove the original skirtings, working around them was very tricky and took some clever design work to get around them, along with making allowance for the sound system with a turn table and ran an extra set of speaker wires to a higher position in the cabinet, all hidden between the backing and wall not visible, but yet completely accessible.
The entire unit was done in 30mm MDF, painted in a 2pack lacquer to match the wall colour, and assembled and installed on site over a 3-day period. No visible screws, no modern cam fittings, all old school mortice and tenon join where the sides are visible.
It was a stressful time of year to take this one, but she was amazing to work with and we got it in on time and on budget. We love the end result. Now she needs more books 😊
